Classification of Turbine

Classification Of Turbine:

Turbine: Hydraulic turbine is a prime mover that uses the energy of flowing water and converts it into the mechanical energy the form of rotation of runner wheel.

01. Based on head and quantity of water

          i) High head turbine. (H>250 m) Ex: Impulse turbine
          ii) Medium head turbine. (45 m < H <250 m) Ex: Reaction turbine
iii) Low head turbine. (H <45m) Ex: Kaplan turbine

02. Based on hydraulic action of water:

          i) Impulse turbine
          ii) Reaction turbine

03. Based on direction of flow:

          i) Tan gentile flow turbine
          ii) Radial flow turbine
          iii) Axial flow turbine
          iv) Mixed flow turbine

 04. Based on  specific speed:

          i) Pelton wheel; Specific speed 8-30
ii) Francis turbine; Specific speed 50-250
iii) Kaplan turbine; Specific speed 250-850

05. Based on axis position of shaft:

          i) Horizontal axis
          ii) Vertical axis
